In Henderson, Nevada (just outside of Las Vegas where cocktails are an art) something new is brewing (or rather, distilling). The new Las Vegas Distillery has released a 1 year old single barrel blue corn bourbon. 200 bottles for $49.99. Been a year in the making and the rare spirit enthusiasts are already talking.
What’s so special about this Blue Corn bourbon?
Not your average bourbon. Master Distiller Jonny Ver Planck started this project before Las Vegas Distillery even opened in 2024. The distillery was laying down barrels in 2023. Why? Because time is an ingredient. Distilling is a waiting game where flavors come together and get deeper as they age. And this bourbon, with 75% blue corn, 15% rye and 10% malted barley is ready to show what a year of aging can do.
What you’ll taste
Matured in charred oak barrels this bourbon has a lot of flavor. Early tasting notes:
- Vanilla beans and brown sugar for that smooth sweet start
- Cinnamon with a hint of spice for warmth
- Candied orange peel and sweet corn for a fruity finish
Proofed between 86 and 92 this has just the right amount of punch for sipping and each bottle is a snapshot of the whiskey’s journey.
