Las Vegas Hotels Step Up with Discounts for Wildfire Evacuees

Posted by on

The devastating wildfires in Southern California have forced thousands to leave their homes, and as the blazes rage on, some Las Vegas hotels are stepping up to offer discounted stays to evacuees. From affordable rooms to waived fees, here’s how the hospitality industry is lending a hand to those in need.

A wide shot of the Las Vegas Strip at night.

Primm Valley Resort Offers $29 Rooms for Evacuees

For those escaping the fires, the Primm Valley Casino Resorts in Nevada have made their rooms remarkably affordable—just $29 per night through January 31, 2025. They’ve even waived their usual pet and resort fees, recognising the challenges evacuees face. Located about 250 miles northeast of Pacific Palisades, one of the hardest-hit areas, the property offers 624 rooms and suites, providing some relief to displaced families.

Other Las Vegas Hotels Join the Cause

Several other Las Vegas hotels have rolled out special rates and discounts:

  • Treasure Island: Rooms are available for $79 per night, also until January 31, 2025.
  • Virgin Hotels Las Vegas: Offering up to 50% off rates, free parking, and even pet-friendly perks through February 3, 2025, despite ongoing staff strikes.
  • Resorts World Las Vegas: Offering a 35% discount to those impacted.
  • MGM Resorts and South Point Hotel: Matching the 35% off deal for evacuees.
  • Fontainebleau Las Vegas: Also offering discounted stays, though specific rates weren’t shared.

And it’s not just hotels—Airbnb has partnered with 211LA to connect evacuees with no-cost housing options. Generous hosts in the Las Vegas area are opening their homes to displaced families, further expanding support.

Pets Welcome, But With Caveats

While many hotels have waived fees for dogs, evacuees travelling with cats or other non-dog pets face challenges. Reports from Vital Vegas highlight frustration over “hundreds of dollars” in extra charges for these pets, prompting criticism of some Las Vegas hotels for not being more accommodating.

The Wildfires: A Sobering Update

As of January 12, 2025, the wildfires have claimed the lives of 10 people and forced the evacuation of 180,000 residents. Several fires continue to burn across Southern California, with varying levels of containment:

  • Pacific Palisades Fire: The most severe, burning 19,978 acres with only 6% containment.
  • Eaton Fire: 13,690 acres burned, 0% contained.
  • Kenneth Fire: 960 acres burned, 35% contained.
  • Sunset Fire: Fully contained after burning 60 acres.
  • Hurst Fire: 771 acres burned, 37% contained.
  • Lidia Fire: 394 acres burned, 75% contained.

In addition to the destruction of over 9,000 structures, looting has become a concern. Over 20 arrests have been made in evacuated areas.

Nevada Firefighters Answer the Call

In a remarkable show of solidarity, Nevada firefighters have joined their Californian counterparts to battle the blazes. Governor Joe Lombardo praised their bravery, saying, “Please join me in praying for the safety of our first responders and for immediate relief for the families and communities displaced by these wildfires.”

As of this week, Nevada has sent:

  • 25 fire engines, organised into four strike teams and one task force, comprising 110-125 personnel.
  • Additional crews from Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, and Pahrump Valley Fire & Rescue.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada are also aiding on the ground, helping displaced families for the next two weeks.

Celebrities Feel the Impact

Even stars aren’t immune to the devastation. Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal are among those who’ve lost their homes. Hilton’s Malibu beach house burned to the ground, a moment she described as “something no one should ever have to experience.”

Meanwhile, Crystal, whose Pacific Palisades home was destroyed, shared heartfelt words:

“Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away. We are heartbroken, of course, but with the love of our children and friends, we will get through this.”

He expressed confidence in his community, calling Pacific Palisades a “resilient community of amazing people” that will rebuild.

A Glimmer of Hope in a Time of Loss

While the wildfires have left immense destruction, the support pouring in—from discounted hotel stays to firefighters and volunteers on the frontlines—shows that communities are coming together. As the fires are battled and evacuees find shelter, hope remains strong that recovery is on the horizon.
